About Larimer County Economic and Workforce Development’s Veterans Services

The U.S. Department of labor and the Larimer County Economic and Workforce Development place great emphasis on service to veterans, especially to recently separated veterans, and to those with a service-connected disability or some other barrier to employment.  We know that it’s not always easy to find a job after military service.  The Larimer County Economic and Workforce Development works with you to find a job after military service.  The Larimer County Economic and Workforce Development work with you to utilize, promote and expand upon your training work ethic and skill sets to help you develop a great career and find a rewarding job.

Who is an Eligible Veteran?

Based on the requirements under the Employment Security Act, an eligible veteran:

  1. Served on active duty for a period of more than 180 days and was discharged or released with other than a dishonorable discharge.
  2. Was discharged or released from active duty because of a service-connected disability regardless of the length of service.
  3. Was a member of a reserve component under an order to active duty pursuant to section 12301(a),(d) or (g), 12302, or 12304 of Title 10, served on active duty during a period of war or in a campaign expedition for which a campaign badge is authorized and was discharged or released from such duty. National Guard units fall under this category, only if a campaign badge was authorized.

Who is an Eligible Person?

An eligible person is eligible for Economic and Workforce Development services for Veterans based on the following criteria:

  1. The spouse of any person who died of a service-connected disability,
  2. The spouse of any member of the Armed Forces serving on active duty who, at the time of application for assistance under this chapter [USCS § § 4101 et seq.], is listed pursuant to section 556 of title 37 and regulations issued thereunder, by the Secretary concerned in one or more of the categories has been listed for total of ninety days: (i) missing in action, (ii) captured in the line of duty by a hostile force or, (iii) forcibly detained or interned in the line of the duty by a foreign government or power OR
  3. The spouse of any person who has a total disability permanent in nature resulting from a service-connected disability so evaluated was in existence.

What is Veterans Priority of Service?

Federal law and regulations require all workforce programs funded by the Department of Labor to provide priority of service to:

  1. Veterans who served in the active military, naval, or air service and who were discharged under conditions other than dishonorable; and,
  2. Eligible spouses of those Veterans who have total service-connected disabilities or who died as a result of service-connected disabilities.

Priority of service means that those Veterans and eligible spouses, who meet all the eligibility requirements for a program or service, are to receive access to that program or service either earlier in time or instead of persons who are not eligible for priority of service.
